Operation Cover-up

This program started in 1998 by Supreme Chamberlain Leo and Sultana Rita Serowik and since then we have distributed 2252 Afghans. The program’s purpose was to distribute afghans for the comfort of intellectually disabled people who reside in group homes. These afghans are hand-crafted by volunteers and donated to the Order of the Alhambra, Inc. This highly-successful Operation Cover-Up program is overseen by Sultana Betty Nichols. If you would like to order an afghan or have interest in becoming one of our Operation Cover-up Crocheters, please contact Betty at (248) 545-5086. We supply the yarn, postage and pattern. All you need to supply is the time and love.

Alma Dalinsky, a resident of St. Anne's Retirement Community, displays one of her handmade afghan blankets and a scrapbook full of thank you cards and letters. Dalinsky has crocheted more than 133 afghans.
