The Karmona Klowns were founded in 1970. At that time, Carmona Caravan's members would gather together at the Rose-Mary Center to present Christmas gifts to all of the handicapped children. Two Masonic clowns were hired to help Santa "do his thing" and distribute gifts. They performed so magnificently that Carmona's members invited them to join their Christmas party following their visit to the Center. They were received so warmly that not only did they refuse the payment for their services, but they also offered to teach the clowning art to any Carmona members who were interested.
The Karmona Klowns' antics have been seen in parades, at children's homes, in hospitals, at picnics, on television, in newspapers, and even at corporation-sponsored events. The Klowns talents include making animal balloons, painting faces of children (and adults!!), a little bit of magic, a wee bit of juggling, and sometimes they've even been seen tricking the crowd with water cameras or other homemade props.
While every Klown is unique in their talents, make-up, and costume, all of the clowns share a common purpose for being a member of the Karmona Klowns. This purpose is to help people who are retarded. In this case, the word "help" is defined as the bringing of a smile, the sharing of a hug, the giving of a balloon, and the taking of time. Unfortunately, for the recipients of our "help", these insignificant treats may only happen once a year or once in a lifetime.
We have not forgotten the efforts of our Masonic friends Tom Adams (Scarecrow) and Jack Ciangola (The Tramp) in 30 years, and we never will!
