Stratford, Connecticut
Memorial Plaque
The Plaque pictured above commemorates the first Mass Celebrated in Fairfield County,
Connecticut during the Revolutionary War.
It was a project of the Connecticut Region Council of Caravans, approved
by the Historical Memorial Committee and the Council of Viziers, and
erected at St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Newtown, CT on Saturday, November 21, 1998.
Ongoing research leans toward the theory that St. Rose Church is part of
the site where the Mass was offered.
Present and past Supreme Officers and Regional Directors traveled to St. Rose
of Lima Church in Newtown, CT to attend the Mass and dedication ceremony of the
Historical Memorial Plaque. Appearing to the left and right of the plaque in
the photo above with CT RD Mike DelRe, who is standing at the extreme right
are, from left to right, PSV Tom Wall, SV Leo Serowik, PSC Roger Reid, SV Bob
Edwards, SC Angelo Miele, RD Tom Leonard-NJ, RD Bernie Devine-NH, PSC Sam
Spatafore. Participating in the Mass as Lector was RD Leonard, and in the
ceremony were SV Edwards, representing the Historical Memorial Comte., who
spoke first on its purpose and then actually unveiled the plaque, and SC
Miele spoke further on the Order's purposes in a formal presentation of the
plaque. Not shown is Rev. Stanley Koziol, CT Region Chaplain, took part in the
celebration of the Mass, and who blessed the plaque prior to the formal
unveiling.
